Spelling- To spell Dalmatian you spell it with a not o.. most people that don't know the breed tend to spell it wrong.. its spelled Dalmatian not Dalmation.
History- From what I have read.. they have some pictures of Dalmatians dating all the way back to the 1700 BC If the paintings are correct that means Dalmatians have been here for over 3000 years! Dalmatians have a really interesting history.. I will list some books for you to check out.
Origin- They say they are from a country called Dalmatia and its located in the region of Croatia
Breed Standard - Height- is between 19 and 23 inches. Any dog or bitch over 24 inches at the withers is disqualified
Weight- 50-70lbs
Coat type and
color- The coat is short and fine.It is
sleek, glossy and healthy in appearance. The spots
are black or liver. Tri colors(very rare) and patches are disqualified from
the show ring and should not be used for breeding.
Eyes- The color of the eyes are from a brown to blue.
Temperment- is stable and outgoing.
Interesting facts: When Dal puppies are born they are pure white and their spots come in later. Dalmatians have a sense a humor and they love to be with their families but wary of strangers.
Dalmatians were used for coaching. Coaching is when they run as close to the horses heels or under the axel of the coaches. Fire departments use Dals as a mascott because back when they used horses for water trucks the dals ran along with them until the horses were replaced with the trucks.. The dogs stayed at the firehouse and was on guard. Still today many fire departments use Dals as a mascott. Our town fire department has a mini van that visits schools and its painted like a dalmatian.. will try and get a photo of it to post it here.
